July 23, 2013
Attendance: Randy Neatherlin, County Commissioner; Terri Jeffreys. County Commissioner; Scott Hilburn,
Hospital District #1; Peggy VanBuskirk, Hospital District #2; Frank Phillips, Fire Commissioner.
Tim Sheldon, County Commissioner and Mike Olsen, City of Shelton Commissioner, were absent.
1. The Chairperson called the meeting to order at 3:33 p.m.
2. VanBuskirk/Hilburn moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as published. Motion carried
unanimously.
3. Correspondence - None
4. Hilburn/VanBuskirk moved and seconded to adopt the regular meeting minutes of May 28, 2013 as
presented. Motion carried unanimously.
5. Board discussion — Robert Wood Johnson Foundation issue briefs regarding public health in the 21st
century.
The Board discussed the services and programs in the Health department and how the majority of the
department is funded by grants. They questioned the monitoring and evaluation of grants and how essential
services are determined.
Cmmr. Neatherlin suggested focusing on a specific health topic, such as smoking, for the next meeting.
Lydia Buchheit provided a handout regarding the CHIP priorities for the Board to look at before the next
meeting.
The Board agreed the first topic for discussion would be smoking. They would like a report of what has
been done thus far in the department and recommendations for the next steps.
6. Board Comments — None
7. Public Comment - Constance Ibsen suggested that hiring a Health Officer from the local community could
help with the Board's goals. She also requested an update on a grant project related to D-listed streams.
8. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 4:53 p.m.
