Attendance: Sue Ickes, Chair; William Kendrick, Vice-Chair; and Mark Nault, Commissioner Others: Tami Beyer, Kevin Hanson, Ryan Spurling, Nichole Wilston, and Becky Rogers. Business: 1. Selection of 2022 Chair & Vice-Chair Commission Member Nault nominated Sue Ickes for Chair. Commission Members Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to elect Sue Ickes as Chair for 2022. Motion carried unanimously. Commission Member Kendrick nominated Mark Nault for Vice-Chair. Commission Members Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to elect Mark Nault as Vice-Chair for 2022. Motion carried unanimously. 2. 2022 Meeting Schedule was reviewed with meetings set for the third Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. The meetings will continue online/telephone via the Zoom platform until further notice, due to the pandemic. Cmmr. Kendrick/Nault moved and seconded to approve the 2022 meeting schedule. Motion carried unanimously. 3. Approval of Minutes: December 16, 2021 regular meeting minutes and January 10, 2022 special meeting minutes. Cmmrs. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to approve the December 16, 2021 regular meeting minutes and the January 10, 2022 special meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. 4. Chief Examiner Update 4.1. Position Tracking - 9 vacant funded positions: Community Service Officers-2; Corrections Deputy-4; Deputy Sheriff-1; and Support Specialist 2 (aka Records Specialist)-2. 4.2. Community Service Officer (CSO) - The job posting for the CSO position closes today. Currently there are eleven applicants. A written test and oral board will follow to establish the eligibility list for the CSO position. 4.3. Approval to double fill a Deputy Sheriff Sergeant position when there are qualified candidates and documented notice of retirement. The Sheriff's Office would like to promote a corporal to sergeant before the May retirement date which would double fill the sergeant position. This will create a vacant corporal position. An entry level corrections deputy would then be promoted to the corporal position. Commission Members Kendrick/Nault moved and seconded to approve double filling a Deputy Sergeant position, when there are qualified candidates and documented notification of retirement. Motion carried unanimously. 5. Sheriff's Office Update 5.1. Corrections - Chief Hanson reported on the following items. Civil Service Commission - He thanked each member of the Civil Service Commission for their service. The volunteerism and commitment are greatly appreciated. Recruitment -Several of the Sheriff's Office electronic reader boards have been placed strategically around the County announcing the hiring of Corrections Deputies which includes a signing bonus. A draft revision was made to the Waiver and Authorization To Release Information Form with added language to state candidates are not entitled to obtain copies of the background information. The draft was sent to the Prosecutor's Office for review and approval. Corrections Officer Academy (COAL - One newly hired corrections deputy is attending the Criminal Justice Training Commission's COA. The COA has been extended to ten weeks from the previous six weeks. 5.2. Patrol - Chief Spurling reported they have experienced high call volumes with multiple shootings, robberies and violent crimes. However, the deputies are doing great work. Chair Ickes shared her positive experience with her recent Ride-Along. Cmmr. Kendrick stated he would like a Ride-Along and will reach out to schedule that. 5.3. Support Staff - Chief Beyer reported that two candidates for Support Specialist 2 were placed in backgrounding. One candidate has withdrawn, due to obtaining a job offer elsewhere. They are determining who the next candidate will be. 6.
