HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-28-2015 BOHMASON COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH PROCEEDINGS July 28, 2015 Attendance: Randy Neatherlin, County Commissioner; Tim Sheldon, County Commissioner; Terri Jeffreys. County Commissioner; Eileen Branscome Hospital District #1; Peggy VanBuskirk, Hospital District 112; Frank Phillips, Fire Commissioner; Mike Olsen, City of Shelton Commissioner. 1. The Chairperson called the meeting to order at 3: 35 p.m. 2. Peggy VanBuskirk/Cmmr. Jeffreys moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as published. Motion carried unanimously. 3. Cmmr. Jeffreys/Peggy Van Buskirk moved and seconded to adopt the regular meeting minutes of May 26, 2015 as presented. Motion carried unanimously. 4. Public Health and Human Services Budget Discussion. Vicki Kirkpatrick commented on the following: • 2016 Goals and Objectives O 2016 Proposed Organization Chart • 2015 Approved Budget Summary • 2016 Anticipated and Desired Changes Cmmr. Olsen said the City is exceeding the clean up efforts. He is worried that the County is not paying their fair share. It's an important issue and should be instituted. He strongly suggests the County do their share. He said if we don't fix this now, it will cost more in the future. He encouraged the group to look at the report he passed out. He thinks it would be a small fee to pay for a large impact on the environment. Cmmr. Neatherlin said he likes the PIC program although he doesn't think septics are the main concern. Cmmr. Olsen said everyone should chip in fairly for the sake of the environment. Vicki said from their experience with Oakland Bay, they have learned it takes a multi pronged approach. 5. TB Project: Lydia Buchheit, CFH Manager stated that they have been contacted by Washington State Department of Health regarding a pilot program to implement new T spot testing. The testing would be the inexpensive part although after the test comes the more expensive follow up and the State of Washington is willing to help. Lydia stated this is a good opportunity and said that Public Health will be doing the clinics themselves and they will also collect data. Peggy VanBuskirk confirmed that screening will be done in North Mason as well. Lydia stated that Snohomish and Whatcom Counties are also doing this and it will last approximately one year. 6. Other Business: ➢ Vicki said Dr. Yu is not here because she is at Camp Leo; a camp for chronically ill children. ➢ There were two cases on Salmonella in Mason County. The message for the public is to properly cook meat and avoid cross contamination. ➢ Vicki also passed out and commented on the Local Public Health System Annual Report to the Legislature. It provides information from local health jurisdictions around the state Board and staff. BOA " OF HEALTH PROCEEDINGS July 28, 2015 - PAGE 2 7. Board Comments/Discussion: ➢ Cmmr. Olsen said the City has ordered a consultant regarding the C street dump. They City is also in the works of doing a trial run with a porta-potty program within the City. He hopes there won't be any vandalism problems with them. Lydia asked if they have looked into some of them with the open bottoms so people can't sleep or do inappropriate things inside the porta potty. Crmnr. Olsen said they have although they are extremely expensive. Frank Phillips stated that Hoodsport has some and they seem to be working well. ➢ Aug 1, 2015 fishing season starts on Skokomish and Fish & Wildlife are planning and being pro- active. ➢ Cmmr. Neatherlin asked about Hunter Farms. Debbie Riley said Hunter Farms is a non -conforming business and allows people to park on their property. Debbie said it's dry camping only. 8. Public Comment: ➢ Constance Ibsen said Wilson Recycling is up for sale. The site is not currently cleaned up. She would like this investigated. Debbie Riley responded by telling her that Jess and others have been working on this to get it taken care of. 9.
