Mason County Civil Service Commission 2021 Meeting Schedule The Mason County Civil Service Commission will meet at 411 N. 5th Street, Shelton, WA 98584 at 5:00 pm on the third Thursday of each month. During the pandemic, the Commission will meet virtually via the Zoom platform while in person meetings are prohibited. See dates listed below. January 21 February 18 March 18 April 15 May 20 June 17 July 15 August 19 September 16 October 21 November 18 December 16 If special accommodations are needed,contact the Human Resources Office at ext.268,Shelton#360-427-9670; Belfair#360-275-4467,Elma#360-482-5269 Mason County Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes December 17, 2020 The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. virtually via the Zoom platform by Chairperson Ickes. Attendance: Susan Ickes, Chair; William Kendrick, Vice-Chair; Mark Nault, Commissioner Others: Tami Beyer, Sheryl Hilt, Shane Schoeneberg, and Becky Rogers. Business: 1. Approval of Minutes: November 19, 2020 regular meeting minutes. Cmmr. Kendrick/Nault moved and seconded to approve the regular meeting minutes dated November 19, 2020. Motion carried unanimously. 2. Chief Examiner Update 2.1. Position Tracking - 5 vacant funded and unfunded FTE positions. Funded--1 Financial Assistant, 1 Corrections Deputy; and 1 Records Specialist. Unfunded- -2 Corrections Deputies. 2.2. Approval of Establishment of Eligibility List for Financial Assistant to fill the position recently vacated. Cmmr. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to approve the establishment of an eligibility list for the Financial position. Motion carried unanimously. 2.3. Approval of Establishment of Eligibility List for Support Specialist II. This item is being removed at this time. 3. Sheriff's Office Update 3.1. 2021 Adopted County Budget - Sheryl Hilt, Finance Manager, stated that one of two additional Corrections Deputy positions was approved in the 2021 budget. The County Commissioners held off approval of the second Corrections Deputy position until it is closer to the Building 10 remodel opening date, now anticipated later in 2021. 3.2. Corrections Deputy Positions - Shane Schoeneberg, Jail Lt., stated he spoke with Chief Hanson and there is no issue at this time concerning the unfunded Corrections Deputy positions as they were intended to be Transport Deputies for Building 10. They hope to have adequate notice to fill any additional position(s) that are funded for the opening of Building 10 remodel. 3.3. Deputy Sheriff Division - Chief Beyer reported the Patrol Division is fully staffed with two recent new hires that were added -- one male and one female. Both deputies will attend training at the Criminal Justice Training Commission academy, when a position is open. A new K9 Officer position has Mason County Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes December 17,2020 Page 2 been created and Deputy Charles Taylor will be the new K9 handler. The K9 handler and pup will start their 400 hours of training. In anticipation of the retirement of an additional K9 dog there is another puppy in the wing. 3.4. Public Safety Testing (PST) Virtual Career Fair - Sgt Decker will be participating in a virtual career fair conducted by PST on Friday, December 18. 2020. MCSO will be given ten minutes to discuss the agency and then answer any questions the candidates may have concerning Mason County Corrections. 3.5. Corrections Division - Lt. Schoeneberg stated one candidate in backgrounding did not pass the requirements and the name will be removed from the eligibility list. There is a possibility in 2021 of a Corrections Deputy retiring. Changes have been made to the housing units in the jail to allow more cells for isolation for when new inmates come in. The inmate count has been in the low to mid 40's. 3.6. Cmmr. Nault mentioned the recent newspaper article about Corporal Ripp and the staff in doing their job and the camaraderie. The commission expressed gratification to Corporal Ripp and all the staff for the great job on the front lines. 4.
