The regular meeting was called to order at 5 : os p . m . , in the Mason County Building 1, Commission
Chambers, at 411 N . 5th Street, Shelton , WA by Chairperson Byrd .
Attendance : B . Dean Byrd , Chair; Brian Kelly, Vice - Chair; and Matthew Davis, Commissioner
Others : Chief Tami Beyer and Becky Rogers, Chief Examiner
Business :
A . Approval of Minutes : July 19 , 2018 regular meeting minutes & August 2 , 2018 special
meeting minutes .
Cmmr. Kelly/Davis moved and seconded to approve the July 19 and August 2
minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
B . Chief Examiner Update
a . Vacant Position Update — There are 5 positions (2 corrections deputy & 3 deputy
sheriff) that are funded and vacant .
b . Annual Civil Service Conference at Yakima — September 20 & 21 - - The Civil Service
Chief Examiner will be attending the conference . It is recommended that one Civil
Service Commissioner also attend the conference .
Cmmr. Kelly/Byrd moved and seconded to recommend Matthew Davis attend
the conference. Motion carried unanimously.
c . Sheriff' s Office positions covered by Civil Service Rules — The Chief Examiner noted
that the Mason County Civil Service website reflects Mason County Sheriff' s Office
positions, which are covered by the Civil Service Rules . These positions are being
reviewed to make necessary updates to reflect current positions .
Cmmr. Byrd asked what word crew is . The Chief Examiner noted that it is the
Community Service Office .
Chief Beyer questioned about elimination of the following positions on the website :
Food Service Coordinator, Animal Control Officer, Control Room Operator,
Lieutenant and Accountant position .
Chair Byrd asked that Chief Beyer and Becky Rogers meet to work on this together
and bring forward at a future meeting date .

d . Finance Manager Eligibility List — Job Posting 18 -49 — It was noted the position was
posted on 8/8/2018 and the first review date is 8/22 /2018 . The position is open
until filled .
C . Sheriff' s Office Update — none
D . The meeting adjourned at 5 : 09 p . m .
